Racial injustice continues to be
prevalent in our society.
Now more than ever, it is time to speak up and take action to make Central Indiana a truly racially equitable place to live and work. That’s why the greater Indianapolis business community, its civic organizations and the City of Indianapolis have come together pledging their resources, influence, and time to create a more equitable city for everyone.
A Pledge for Racial Equity
“We pledge to take meaningful action to address the issues of racial equity and justice in Central Indiana. As leaders in this community, we must hold one another accountable for creating short- and long-term change for African Americans. We pledge to share our progress toward the goal of a racially equitable community.”
RACIAL DISPARITIES IN CENTRAL INDIANA
African Americans are less likely to have the access to, use of and quality of health care.
African Americans receive lower pay, have fewer financial assets and fewer opportunities to grow their wealth.
African American children, on average, are given lower grades and receive more out-of-school suspensions.
African American males are disproportionately arrested and incarcerated, which in turn disadvantages African American families and children.
